How is laser lithotripsy performed?A thin, flexible laser fiber is inserted into your urethra where it makes its way up to your bladder. The fiber then fires laser energy at the stones and breaks them apart, similar to ESWL however with much more precision and effectiveness. Unlike ESWL, laser lithotripsy is not limited by size, location or hardness of the stones.
Recovery for Laser LithotripsyBecause of the invasive nature of this procedure, you will need general anesthesia and a hospital stay as a result. You will experience nausea and fatigue due to the anesthesia, so be sure to follow your post-surgical instructions.
